Crisp Arrested for DUI
February and March were rough months for athletes and celebrities, with many being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Professional baseball player Coco Crisp was arrested in the early morning hours of March 2nd, after local law enforcement agents in Scottsdale, Arizona, spotted him swerving in his lane. Ironically, Crisp's arrest came just hours after Major League Baseball security officials held an annual talk with Crisp and his teammates about drinking and driving. Crisp, who plays the outfield for the Oakland Athletics and was in Scottsdale for spring training, was pulled over by local law enforcement agents after they spotted his 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom "failing to stay in one lane of traffic." Upon approaching the $400,000 vehicle, officers at the scene "observed signs of intoxication" and asked Crisp to perform a series of field sobriety tests. Crisp reportedly performed poorly on the tests and was arrested without incident and taken to a local jail, where he was released in time to report to pre-game drills and training that morning and was back on the field later that day when his team hosted an exhibition game against the Cleveland Indians. No word has been given on what Crisp's blood alcohol content may have been at the time of his arrest, nor when he will be in court.
Crisp's story is especially telling about how many DUI arrests occur. Even if people know the risks of drinking and driving, they still might think they are sober enough to drive. As an experienced Los Angeles DUI defense attorney can attest, however, feeling sober enough to drive does not ensure that you will not be arrested for DUI. A
Los Angeles DUI defense attorney can tell you that even just one or two drinks can put you over the legal limit of 0.08% blood alcohol concentration. Field sobriety tests can be particularly trick in terms of proving sobriety as they are highly subjective and can be performed poorly on even if you are sober. An experienced
Los Angeles DUI defense attorney knows that being tired or ill can make even a sober person perform poorly on tests that require attention to balance and alertness.
