Nivea Arrested for DUI

Singer Nivea was arrested in June on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.  The rhythm and blues singer was reportedly leaving a wedding reception in Atlanta, Georgia when she ran into a tree that had fallen across the road after a recent storm.  The singer, whose fourth studio album was set to be released sometime in 2011, claims that she nearly died when branches from the fallen tree went through her windshield and came within inches of injuring her.  The singer also had one of her children with her in the car at the time of the accident.  The child was reportedly unharmed.  Police at the scene reported that Nivea (last name Hamilton) had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.  The singer admitted to having had three drinks earlier in the evening and stated that she had not seen the yellow police tape or the orange traffic cones on the road to warn people about the tree.  Sources close to the singer insist that she was not drunk or speeding at the time of the accident.  No information about blood alcohol tests or future court dates has yet been released.
