Rose Sentenced for DUI
It would seem that former professional basketball player turned ESPN analyst Jalen Rose cannot catch a break these days. Several months after being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), Rose was sentenced in late July to 92 days in an Illinois County jail for an incident stemming from an accident in March. Rose admitted to having had several drinks before getting into his car and eventually driving off the side of an icy Michigan road and overturning his vehicle. Rose pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated (DWI) back in May. Because of Rose's extensive community work and charitable donations, several prominent people, including the mayor of Detroit, wrote letters supporting the former professional athlete and recommended that he not be given jail time. The judge presiding over the case, however, saw differently. She did, however, suspend 72 days of Rose's sentence and allow him to delay carrying out his sentence for six days so that he could attend a birthday party for his 93-year-old grandmother last month.
In another tough break for the recently-convicted Rose, he was also stopped and cited for speeding while on his way home from his sentencing. According to police reports, Rose was clocked driving 46 miles per hour in a Detroit suburb where the posted speed limit was 25 miles per hour.
While Rose's DUI incident occurred in Michigan, any Los Angeles DUI defense attorney can attest that judges in Los Angeles are no less strict about punishing people for drinking and driving. If you have been charged with DUI or DWI, finding the right Los Angeles DUI defense attorney can be critical to avoiding jail and retaining your driving privileges. An experienced Los Angeles DUI defense attorney knows that if you are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, you have just ten days from the time of your arrest to schedule a hearing with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), or you will lose your driving privileges until after the criminal portion of your proceedings have been decided. DMV hearings can be very technical and difficult to win without the guidance of a skilled Los Angeles DUI defense attorney.
