Ronson Arrested for DUI
Samantha Ronson, DJ and former girlfriend of actress Lindsay Lohan, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) earlier this month outside of Las Vegas. According to reports from local law enforcement agencies, Ronson was driving her black Porsche back to Los Angeles around 10:30 in the morning after working a job as a DJ at a Las Vegas nightclub when patrolmen outside of Baker, California spotted her speeding. Ronson was pulled over and asked to perform a field sobriety test, which she reportedly performed poorly on. At the scene, Ronson was asked to take what is commonly referred to as a "roadside blow," which is not a mandatory test, and which she refused. The DJ was then arrested and taken to a local substation where she took a more official breath analysis test to determine whether or not she had been drinking. Results of the test indicated that her blood alcohol content was above the legal limit of 0.08%, though an exact result has not been released.
One important aspect that Ronson's case highlights is the reliability of blood alcohol science. As any Los Angeles DUI defense attorney can tell you, blood alcohol science is not nearly as accurate as law enforcement agencies or courts would lead you to believe. An experienced
Los Angeles DUI defense attorney knows that many breath analysis machines are notoriously difficult to keep clean and correctly calibrated. In some cases, residue from multiple tests can build up over time and contribute to a falsely high blood alcohol concentration. A good
Los Angeles DUI defense attorney can also tell you that certain foods, health conditions or even breath fresheners can alter the chemical composition of your breath or mimic the presence of alcohol, leading to falsely positive results. Many people in the legal field consider blood tests to be the most accurate method to determine whether or not a person has been drinking and driving, but an experienced Los Angeles DUI defense attorney knows that even blood tests are not full-proof. Blood test results are only as good as the laboratory that produces them and simple mishandling or even mislabeling errors have caused many people to be convicted of DUI when, in fact, they were not driving impaired.
