Hilton Ordered to Pay $4.9 Million

Barron Hilton, brother of tabloid fixture and sometime actress Paris Hilton, was ordered by a Los Angeles County judge to pay out $4.9 million in damages to a gas station attendant who was injured in an accident with Hilton in 2008.  Hilton, who was 18 at the time, was driving under the influence of alcohol when he pulled into a gas station off of the Pacific Coast Highway and struck the attendant with his Mercedes.  The station attendant, Fernando Tellez, was reportedly injured by Hilton's car and claims he has had multiple surgeries to deal with injuries sustained during the accident and is now permanently disabled.  Hilton was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) that day after a breath analysis machine (more popularly known as a breathalyzer) showed that his blood alcohol content was 0.14%--well above California's legal limit of 0.08%.  At the time, Hilton pleaded no contest to his DUI charges.  Hilton maintains that he did not, in fact, hit Tellez with his car.
