DUI with Minors in the Car
A man in Madison County, New York, was recently charged with both driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), as well as four counts of endangering the welfare of a child under the age of 15, known as Leandra's Law in the state of New York. Jason Caufield was driving on a rainy highway in upstate New York when he lost control of the Mercury Mountaineer he was driving. The car slid off the side of the highway and rolled over before crashing into a utility pole. Caufield was treated for minor cuts by paramedics at the scene of the crash while his wife and the four children in the car, whose ages ranged from one year to 11, were all unhurt. Caufield was discovered to have had a blood alcohol content of .12% when he was taken to a nearby state police barracks and tested for
DUI.

Being found guilty of DUI while driving with a child under the age of 14 in your car can be grounds for sentencing enhancements that include more time in either a county jail or even a state prison.
