Illinois Man Charged with DUI
A Lake in the Hills, Illinois man was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol last week after local law enforcement officials in the suburban area near Chicago observed him driving erratically. Police officers on the scene discovered that Ruben Rodriguez was not only driving under the influence of alcohol, but speeding, texting while driving and had four children ranging in age from 11 to 12 in the car with him. Rodriguez was also found to have been driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI arrest. Because of his prior arrest, Rodriguez was restricted to driving vehicles that were equipped with a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device to monitor whether or not Rodriguez had been drinking prior to driving. The vehicle Rodriguez was driving at the time of his most recent DUI arrest was not equipped with such a device, which elevated Rodriguez's charge of driving on a suspended license to a Class 4 felony criminal offense. Rodriguez is being charged with one count each of DUI, driving with a suspended license, improper lane usage, speeding and using an electronic communication device while driving, in addition to four counts of endangering the life of a child. No date has been set for Rodriguez's arraignment.
While Rodriguez's case occurred just outside of Chicago, Los Angeles law enforcement officials also take driving under the influence with a minor under the age of 14 very seriously.
