Wolfe Charged with Two DUIs in the Same Weekend
The alcohol must flow pretty freely at political functions. Randy Wolfe, who is campaigning for a seat in North Carolina's state government, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) twice this past weekend. Few details have yet been released about either arrest, but reports allege that when Wolfe was arrested on Saturday, he had a blood alcohol content of .14% - nearly twice the legal limit of .08% in North Carolina. When officers arrested Wolfe for the second time on Sunday, his blood alcohol content was reportedly even higher: 0.20%, two and one-half times the state's legal limit. The website built for Wolfe's political campaign was removed, but Wolfe has not announced that he is withdrawing from the upcoming election. Wolfe was quoted today as saying he "made a serious mistake" and apologized to his supporters. No information has been given on when Wolfe will be arraigned or what punishments he might be facing.

Los Angeles DUI defense attorneys know that blood alcohol content tests are not the dependable, fail-safe science that aggressive prosecutors and judges take it to be. Alcohol is absorbed at different rates for people of all heights, weights and body types and can affect or impair different people in astonishingly different ways. A person who drinks regularly is more likely to have a higher tolerance than someone who is bigger and heavier but less experienced in drinking. Additionally, alcohol affects people differently; a person who has had a few drinks may not be "impaired" and still be sober enough to drive. Breath analysis tests, which are routinely used in DUI arrests, are notoriously faulty and frequently give falsely-high readings if they are not precisely calibrated and cleaned frequently. Even the testing of a person's blood, long considered to be the most accurate method to determine a person's sobriety, has come under fire recently as laboratories are discovered to have handled blood samples improperly.
