Fatal DUI Crash in Northern California
A horrific car accident last Saturday has left two people dead, two with serious injuries and is being attributed to a driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI). Police reports indicate that Richard Farias was driving at speeds as high as 110 miles per hour through a Madera County highway when he attempted to change lanes and lost control of his car. The black Jaguar Farias was driving reportedly flipped several times before landing on its wheels in a field off the highway. Aside from Farias, there were three other vehicle occupants: a woman who reportedly was sitting in the front passenger seat died in the car during the crash, a man who was sitting in the back seat was thrown from the vehicle and died, and a third occupant who sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Farias was also reportedly seriously injured and taken to a nearby hospital. After being released from the hospital, Farias was arrested and charged with felony DUI as well as manslaughter, then released several hours later. Records show that Farias has been arrested for five alcohol-related crimes and was convicted of one count each of DUI and drunk in public in the past. No word has been given yet on when Farias is to be arraigned.
