Bus Crash DUI
Three teenaged boys have been detained by Los Angeles police after a horrific crash that was thought to be drinking-related killed one person and injured at least a dozen high school students. In late October, witnesses in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles reported seeing a black BMW run a red light and hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk just before colliding with a school bus. The bus, which contained several dozen students from the East Los Angeles Skills Center, an off-campus location for students from Roosevelt High School, tipped over onto its side and onto the platform of a local railway station. Witnesses at the scene of the crime also reported seeing two people immediately jump out of the BMW and attempt to run away from the scene of the accident, but both were caught by construction workers working in the area. As many as 20 of the students and the driver in the overturned bus were treated for "minor" injuries and the fatality is believed to have been the pedestrian hit by the BMW before it crashed into the bus. Police reports say a third teenaged boy was arrested later that night when he came to a local hospital for treatment of injuries related to the crash. The identities of the three young boys in the BMW have not been released, and police are still investigating whether or not the driver may have been drinking at the time of the accident. The 17-year-old driver of the BMW is believed to have been driving his parents' car and is potentially facing manslaughter, felony driving under the influence (DUI) and hit-and-run charges.
