Another Former Yankee in DUI Trouble

Jim Leyritz, a one time World Series hero for the New York Yankees, reached a settlement agreement in the civil case involving his Felony DUI manslaughter case.  Leyritz agreed to pay $350,000 to the family of the woman killed during a deadly crash.  Leyritz allegedly ran a rid light while intoxicated, hitting and kill Fredia Ann Veitch.  Both Veitch and Leyritz were allegedly over the legal limit for blood alcohol content.

Jim Leyritz played for half a dozen major league baseball teams, the most memorable of which was the New York Yankees.  He hit a decisive home run against the Atlanta Braves in the 1996 World Series, helping the Yankees win their first title in almost two decades.
The Felony DUI allegedly happened in 2007 after Leyritz was celebrating his 44th birthday.  The trial begins July 12th, and he could be facing up to ten years in prison if convicted of the crime.  Both Leyritz and Veitch left bars before the crash occurred.  Leyrtiz's blood alcohol content was .14 and .13 when tested three and four hours after the alleged  Felony DUI incident, and Ms. Veitch had a blood alcohol level of .18.  The legal limit is .08.

Any Felony DUI in Los Angeles can bring severe consequences on anyone convicted of such a crime.  At least one year in state prison is the minimum sentence for such a crime, along with heavy fines, substance abuse counseling and a driver's license suspension.  Anyone arrested for, charged with or accused of such a crime will need a skilled Los Angeles DUI Defense Attorney immediately in order to build the best defense possible.

While driving under the influence is normally a misdemeanor, any fatality or serious injury could lead to the elevated charge of a Felony DUI.  Any such charge requires the high level of legal defense that the Los Angeles DUI Defense Attorneys at Kestenbaum Eisner & Gorin can bring.  Our attorneys have over five decades of experience and possess an insider's perspective on DUI trials and investigations.

If your or someone you love has been charged with a Felony DUI, or a lesser charge, contact the Los Angeles DUI Defense Attorneys at Kestenbaum Eisner & Gorin at 877-781-1570.
