High Profile Los Angeles DUI Arrest
Los Angeles DUI Defense Attorneys represent a variety of individuals, including celebrities, athletes, politicians and other high profile people. For example, Miguel Santana, who is the City Administrative Officer for Los Angeles and a part of Mayor Villaregosa's administration, was arrested after midnight for driving too fast on a city street. To complicate matters further for Santana, he was driving a city car at the time of his arrest. However, he was cooperative with officers during the DUI stop (which is helpful), even though he failed the field sobriety test.
Santana was quoted as saying "Driving home from a charity event, I received a DUI. It was a mistake that I deeply regret and I apologize to my family and friends, my staff, the Mayor, the City Council and the entire city family for this indiscretion."
Santana was given a test to measure his Blood Alcohol Content, but was arrested for demonstrating "signs and symptoms of intoxication." The results of the Blood Alcohol Content test have not yet been revealed, but Santana did take a leave of absence from his office. While many DUI stops will lead to a Breath Test to measure
Blood Alcohol Content, sometimes during a DUI stop the police will smell alcohol on the driver's breath and do a blood test at the station.
In Los Angeles, DUI Defense Attorneys pay special attention to every detail surrounding a DUI stop, making sure that police or California Highway Patrol abide by the letter of the law. Unfortunately, the courts take Blood Alcohol Content tests as absolute, even though scientific data tells us that different factors influence a driver's ability to handle certain amounts of alcohol. For example, if you have eaten a meal, you are more capable of handling alcohol; if you are a heavier person, you can handle more alcohol than a smaller person; if you drink regularly, you are more capable of handling alcohol than a new drinker; and so forth.
However, in court, judges and juries will pay zero attention to such factors, simply going for the conviction. These are just some factors related to Blood Alcohol Content that could impact your court defense of DUI charges.
