Florida Mother Arrested for DUI

A 22-year-old mother was arrested recently in St. Petersburg, Florida, following a traffic accident that involved three cars and sent several people to the hospital.  Local law enforcement officials in St. Petersburg suspect that Colleen Ludlow was driving under the influence of alcohol when, while heading west on a city street she struck a curb, then veered into a nearby vehicle at a stoplight, then into another vehicle that was heading east on the same street.  The driver of the eastbound vehicle was an 81-year-old woman who was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for spinal injuries.  Two occupants of the second car were also sent to a nearby hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries and were later released.  Investigators at the scene of the accident say they found Ludlow in the driver's seat of her car with her 2-year-old daughter in her lap.  When questioned, Ludlow reportedly told police that her daughter had been seated and secured in the child safety seat in the back of the car at the time of the accident.  Police at the scene suspected Ludlow of driving under the influence of alcohol after finding empty bottles of both vodka and beer in her car.  Both Ludlow and her daughter were uninjured in the accident.  Ludlow was promptly arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), as well as child abuse.  While in custody, Ludlow reportedly refused to take a breath analysis test and results from her blood alcohol content test are still pending.  Ludlow has previously been arrested on three prior occasions for DUI and was driving on a suspended license at the time of the accident.
