Elie Arrested for DUI
Assistant coach for professional basketball team the Sacramento Kings Mario Elie was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) earlier this month. Local law enforcement officials in Sacramento initially pulled Elie over late one night on December 10th because of a broken tail light on his 1993 Mercedes. After suspecting that Elie, who himself won three NBA championship titles during his own career as a basketball player, may have been drinking and driving, police arrested him around 1:15 a.m., and was released later that morning after posting bail. Elie later issued a statement to the public through the Kings organization expressing his embarrassment over the incident, saying he had "had a couple of drinks" and that his blood alcohol test results showed that his blood alcohol concentration was "slightly over the legal limit." Police reports have not yet been released as to what Elie's blood alcohol content actually was at the time of his arrest. As is the case in most of the country, the legal limit for blood alcohol concentration before a person can be legally considered driving under the influence of alcohol in Sacramento is 0.08%. Elie is, unfortunately, one of several people connected with the Kings organization that has been arrested for drinking and driving over the last several years, including one of the team's owners, George Maloof, Jr., who was arrested on suspicion of DUI earlier this year while in Las Vegas. No word has been given as to when Elie will be arraigned or what he will be formally charged with.
